The Government is already awaiting the results of five separate judicial reviews launched by campaigners who challenged the legality of the southern stage of the plans on grounds including cost and environmental impact. The reviews follow the announcement of the route from London to Birmingham - to open in 2026 - which will cut through the Chiltern Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. [From Mark Bartlett]
