WHILE waiting for Christopher Brookmyre to describe his latest crime novel at the Book Festival, I overheard an animated conversation about transport. When a topic of interest comes up, no matter how much you seek to tune out, it is the devil’s own job not to listen in. The discussion boiled down to why there are not enough seats on the Glasgow to Edinburgh express train.
