Former NER Parcels Dept at Newcastle Central under threat

Date: 31/03/2005

The former NER Parcels Dept at Newcastle Central Station is under severe threat of demolition.

It is a lovely building - 4 storeys high and of wood. It's on a slight uphill curve and is the only remaining wooden building left at Newcastle Station - no record of any similar remaining building on the former NER network has been found. If you can help preserve this building please contact me and I'll send your details on to those keen to save the building.

The portico at Newcastle Central seems to have been glassed-in since I was last here, but that was a long time ago. The space has a continental feel to it. The same departures summary is shown on six double-sided displays (there^s one behind me). One wonders how people coped in the past. Seen on 25 March 2019.
