First public run of new class 334s

Date: 03/04/2001

Just after 10:00 today a train comprising two three-car class 334s ran from Glasgow Central to Gourock and back. This was the first public run of the class 334s.

I travelled on the train and here were my first impressions:

- The train ride was poor between Paisley St James and Bishopton in both directions. The train rocked from side to side.
- The automatic announcements became out of step with the actual stations on the return journey.
- The driver's announcements were virtually in-audible.
Hopefully these are temporary problems. Once ironed out these trains seem to be fast and comfortable. Seating may be at a premium at the rush hour.
