New conveyor at Thornton Yard

Date: 09/01/2002

"In recent weeks work has been undertaken to install what looks (at a distance) like a conveyer system over the line at Thornton Yard. This is probably to carry coal over the line for MGR loading from a new open-cast site nearby. So far nothing has been actually been lifted over the line, but it looks to me like it ought to be soon. How the coal is to be handled at the Thornton Yard end is a mystery however as the conveyer is not being put in opposite any of the current sidings, but is more or less opposite the depot!"
