![For a long time after closure in 1970 Thornton still had its long platform canopies but then became derelict after freight traffic ceased. Now in the care of a preservation group the station is looking much better although the modern building is encroaching the down platform. View towards Fleetwood. Can anyone confirm whether the canopy components from here were used in the station at Blackpool Pleasure Beach? The notice announces that the line from here to the station is under the care of the Poulton & Wyre Railway Society and their efforts can be appreciated here as the line north of the crossing is completely overgrown. ![Still mothballed, it is hard to believe that the Fleetwood branch was formerly a double track main line carrying through express fish trains to London. Passenger trains finally petered out in 1970 but freight continued for many years to both Fleetwood Power Station and the ICI Hillhouse complex at Burn Naze. The last goods train ran in 1999. ![Originally a full vehicle crossing, but for many years restricted to pedestrians only, this is New Road on the mothballed Fleetwood Branch just south of Thornton-Cleveleys station. New Road is shown in Quails Track Diagrams as <I>Tarn Gate</I>. ![<I>Perchance it is not dead but only sleeping</I>, which was originally said about the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway closure but might equally apply to the Fleetwood Branch as it waits patiently for preservation efforts to bear fruit. This is the view south from New Road crossing. ![The former station at Thornton Cleveleys, looking north towards Fleetwood on 19th March 2018. The station is in the care and maintenance of the Poulton & Wyre Railway Society who have tidied up the site and cleared vegetation from the trackbed towards Burn Naze.
