Name and dates

Plean Colliery (1932-1962)

Served by the Plean Colliery Branch (Scottish Central Railway).

Description

This colliery was equipped with coke ovens. There were three shafts, nos 3, 4 & 5. It was served by the Plean Colliery Branch (Scottish Central Railway), located on the south side of that mineral line and reached by reversal.

It was opened by the Plean Colliery Company north east of Plean East Colliery nearby the site of which there was a bing. A further bing was located east of Plean Colliery.

It closed in 1962 and was formally abandoned the following year (leading to the closure of the branch the year after that).

Also known as Plean East Colliery (it was built just west of the settlement of East Plean which itself was later known as Plean).

The site of the colliery and grounds of Plean House are now Stirling Council - Plean Country Park .
