Coal mine. The Chalmerston branch extended to serve it. Looks like tramway ran along main road to reach it. The Dalmellington Iron Company (Phase 2) extension to Pennyvenie dated from 1868.

J & A Taylor built locomotive no 8 for this mine and line at the Townhead Works, Ayr, the only locomotive they ever built.
