Name and dates

Longlee Signal Box (-1940)

Opened on the Lesmahagow Railway.

Description

This box, along with the nearby Hill Colliery Signal Box to the south, was associated with several mines to the north of Netherburn station.

A mineral line ran north west to Woodside Colliery No 2 Pit which was connected by a tramway to Woodside Colliery No 1 Pit.

Another line ran south east and turned towards the north to serve Longlee Colliery No 1 Pit and Longlee Colliery No 2 Pit. From close to its junction with the main line a loop from this ran south via Longlee Colliery No 3 Pit to Hill Colliery Signal Box. No 3 was connected by tramway to Longlee Colliery No 4 Pit.

The box closed in 1940. The line was singled in 1949 (northbound line lifted), closed to passengers in 1951 and closed altogether in 1960.

Today the trackbed can be walked and is a dirt road.
