![Trans-shipment activity at Leith South (aka South Leith) goods depot in the 1980s. View is west from the entrance from South Leith (aka Leith South) yard. The depot was later 'rationalised' and the main goods shed replaced with a modern structure, but much too late. It was subsequently sold on to a private company. ![A merged image showing the main entrance to Leith South goods depot looking north east on Bath Road in the 1980s. The building on the far left was unoccupied at the time, with the depot's two permanent staff accommodated in the buiding alongside the entrance. A siding from South Leith yard can be seen terminating at buffer stops in front of a small wooden hut in the centre background. The crane on the horizon is standing on the south side of Edinburgh Dock. The old main goods shed to the right of the picture was later demolished and replaced by a modern structure [see image 11661]. Leith South goods depot was subsequently closed and the site, including the replacement goods shed, sold on. ![Looking northeast in Bath Road, Leith in 1985 towards Albert Road and the docks. The lettering on the side of the building in the centre reads <I>Freight Depot - Leith South</I>, although it is invariably shown as <I>South Leith</I> on maps, as was the 1832 Edinburgh & Dalkeith passenger station that stood off to the left towards Constitution Street. ![In April 1995 there was a path on the trackbed of the approach to the Bath Road crossing, which was once busy enough to warrant a footbridge. In May 2015 the path is no more, with palisade fencing on this side of the road too, the shrubbery now impenetrable and the yard lamp and pole gone. [See image 19652] for a view of the crossing in 1985, when the buidings were still in place.<br>
