![An unidentified Class 40 hustles a train of oil tanks along the Up Slow line through the site of Balshaw Lane & Euxton station, which had closed in 1969 and been cleared away for the 1972 electrification. By 1998 a new (and renamed) station had opened at this location. ![150137 catches the afternoon winter sun as it comes south between Euxton Junction and Euxton Balshaw Lane station with a Blackpool North to Liverpool service on 3 January 2010. Earlier in the afternoon I had seen this unit south of Balshaw Lane Junction on it's way to Blackpool. ![The second of two football specials from Barrow in Furness to Wembley on 8 May 2010, taking Barrow FC supporters to the FA Trophy final. The first train was operated by DBS and the second by DRS, with 47501 on the front and 47712 at the rear. The special is seeen here approaching Euxton Balshaw Lane on the Up Fast line.<br>

![DBS 66016 arrives at Euxton Balshaw Lane station with a charter train to Ayr on 3 July 2010. The platforms here can cope with a 4 coach multiple unit so a loco hauled 13 coach special does restrict the number of doors by which passengers can board the train. However, this was a better arrangement than the return journey when the train sailed passed the station on the fast lines - which have no platforms.<br>

![WCRC locomotive collection. No 47851 (at the rear of this group) had been sent to Barrow Hill to collect 57001 the previous day, following which the pair then headed for Barry to pick up 47768 (sandwiched between the other two). 31 March 2011, although failing to reach or even come close to achieving linespeed. The appearance of these units on the Fast Lines of the 4 track section here is unusual, possibly just as unusual as seeing a unit head south with 'Preston' on the destination board but this was an ecs move so perhaps that was the excuse. The rear destination board was however displaying 'Wigan Wallgate' so it is anyones guess where the unit was actually going!<br>
