Edrom

Location type

Station

Name and dates

Edrom (1849-1951)

Opened on the Dunse Branch (North British Railway).

Description

This station was half a mile south of the small village of Edrom. It was originally a two platform station, reduced to one for most of its existence. The station is well preserved, a good example of a small North British Railway Borders station.

The platforms were immediately east of a double track road overbridge. When singled, the westbound line was lifted and westbound platform removed. The main station building was on the eastbound (village side) platform. The building was stone built and of a single storey.

There was a goods yard at the east end, on the north side of the line, approached from the east. This had a shed, loading bank and a turnplate for wagons.

The station closed in 1951 and the line in 1966.

The platform, loading bank, station building and goods shed all remain. To the north is a row of railway cottages.
