Easter Road Junction

![Easter Road Junction [see image 17507] was situated right at Easter Road station (closed 1947) at the other end of the curve from Abbeyhill Junction. This line allowed trains through Waverley direct access to Leith and Granton, succeeding the more direct cable-hauled line through Scotland Street tunnel. This curve line closed around 20 years ago after it was decided not to electrify the Abbeyhill loop. Nevertheless the sign still stands in November 2010, overlooking the Powderhall branch and no points.<br><br>[David Panton 13/11/2010]](/images/31000/31517.jpg "Easter Road Junction")

Road Junction Behind me) allowed trains from Waverley to reach Granton<br>
without being hauled up Scotland Street tunnel. I believe it fell out of<br>
use in the late 1980s and was lifted some time afterwards. The area is<br>
being developed over a period of years, and London Road Junction site (in<br>
distance) is currently inaccessible, as is the trackbed here. It was<br>
thoroughly overgrown until quite recently; it looks like a temporary road<br>
has been created for plant. 3rd December 2017. [Granton Shell sidings closed in 1980 and, following a period of being mothballed for possible gasworks traffic, Granton-Powderhall was lifted 1986. So why did this curve survive, for turning engines?]<br>

1951 Edinburgh short *The Singing Street* (<a href=http://movingimage.nls.uk/film/0799 target=external>See 3 minutes 50 seconds of the NLS Moving Image Archive</a>). In those days there were eight tracks under it; now there is but one, and that is disused. I'm looking towards Easter Road station site and the curve to Abbeyhill and Waverley was to the left. Note the surviving buffer from a headshunt. This was for the St Andrew Steel Works of Redpath Brown Ltd.<br>
