Bergen

Location type

Major station

Name and dates

Bergen (1913-)

Opened on the Vossebanen.

Description

The present station dates from a new alignment opened in 1913.

The original terminus of the 1883 narrow gauge Vossebanen, opened between Bergen and Voss, was to the south on a now closed alignment.

The station has a large barrel vaulted glass trainshed roof and stone termini building.

A freight yard is at the east end, south of the line, and a locomotive shed is on the north side.

Formerly a goods line, running largely in tunnels, side-stepped the north side of the station to reach Bergen Harbour.
