Name and dates

Banavie Junction [2nd] (1901-1951)

Note: text in square brackets is added for clarity and was not part of the location's name.

Description

The signal box here controlled the junction between the Banavie [1st] branch and the West Highland's extension west to Mallaig. Both lines were single track.

The signal box here closed in 1921, replaced by a ground frame. The branch closed to passengers in 1939 and completely in 1951.

Note by John McGregor:
Pringle suggested that a 'double line' (in effect a loop?) might become necessary at the new Banavie Junction. I can’t think that this was ever mentioned again?

1.27 miles from Fort William Junction.

Local

To the north is Neptune's Staircase, a series of connected locks on the Caledonian Canal.
