Balnacra Level Crossing

Location type

Name and dates

Balnacra Level Crossing (1870-)

Opened on the Dingwall and Skye Railway.

Description

This is a level crossing with the A890. Half barriers were installed in 2014 (previously without barriers). Around the time of the upgrade of the A890 to two lanes the crossing was eased to cross at a shallow angle, the road formerly had two tight bends and crossed the railway at right angles. There was a crossing keeper's cottage, which has not survived, on the north side of the line and east of the road. The small settlement of Balnacra is just to the south west.
