Auchenharvie Beam Engine House

Description

The ruin of this beam engine still stands. It was built to drain the Auchenharvie Colliery around 1719, probably equipped with a Newcomen atmospheric beam engine. There was a pit diretly alongside. The colliery was developed by Sir Robert Cunninghame of Auchenharvie, although this engine would have been installed after his death in 1715.
