Salford Crescent: 195116 takes the through road at Salford Crescent, avoiding the platform road with a Lancaster to Manchester Airport service on 17th April 2024. This train would normally have started at Barrow but the Grange-over-Sands derailment means services have been turning back at Lancaster. The Barrow line closure was lifted on 22nd April after repairs to the embankment at Grange.

Birmingham Moor Street [Terminus]: I wasn't expecting anything grand for the 8 minute hop to Solihull, but I had a pleasant surprise. It is not every day that you sit in the back coach for maximum thrash; nor do you get a verbal update on forthcoming BLS tours from the nearest gricer. The locomotive is 68010 'Oxford Flyer'.

Partickhill: The bridge across Dumbarton Road, between the old Partickhill station and the site of what is now Partick, was replaced in the early 1970s. No bus replacement service in those days on this busy electrified route, but it looks as though DMUs ran a shuttle service from Partickhill round the north side of Glasgow, through Maryhill, Springburn and Bellgrove, presumably thereby reaching Queen St Low Level. Here one of the shuttle services is ready to leave Partickhill.

Hackney Wick: The entrance to Hackney Wick, a London Overground station opened on 12th May 1980, at 14.35 on Saturday, 24th February 2024. It was rebuilt starting in 2017 and completed the following year. This included a new subway to the platforms that replaced the original footbridge.

Troon: Network Rail welcomed Siobhian Brown, Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Ayr, to Troon station this week as progress continues on the new station building. The timing of the visit coincided with the building becoming wind and water-tight and Ms. Brown was given a first look at the interior of the new facility. A new ticket office and spacious waiting area, as well as a ‘changing places’ facility for people with disabilities and their carers to use, are being built as part of the project. Significant progress has been made in recent weeks with the installation of trusses – the framework supporting the roofs – as well as slate and lead work on the roofs. External concrete blockwork has also been positioned to create the walls of the building.
