Ribblehead: During a brighter period on what was a mainly wet day a Black 5 heads past Ribblehead with a northbound freight. Whernside and the viaduct form the background in this July 1967 view.
Springburn: 'Blue train' units at Springburn. The date of the photograph is not recorded, but it may have been the first occasion on which the photographer came across a blue train with all-over yellow ends, and that might suggest around 1967.
Forfar [1st]: This is the western abutment of the bridge which carried the line into Forfar [1st] over North Street. The bridge was rebuilt several times: the 1860 OS map shows a bridge for two lines, the 1901 map shows three lines and the 1966 map shows only one line, in the centre.
Huncoat Brick Sidings: 156404, on a Preston to Colne stopping service, passes the site of Huncoat Brick Sidings and signal box on 22nd August 2023. The sidings, directly opposite Accrington Cemetery, closed around 1970. Passengers on the Cravens DMU predecessors to these Sprinters would have seen an open railway yard and a mineral line curving away behind Accrington Cricket Club to serve two brick works.
Kirknewton: 50007 and 50049 speed through Kirknewton with Pathfinder Tours' 'Pilgrim Centurion' railtour from Swindon to Edinburgh on 16 September 2023.
York: The effects of 3 franchise holders in under 2 years can be seen in this photograph of 91117 at York on 21 March 2010. The minimalist East Coast lettering has been applied to the National Express temporary white stripe which had in turn been superimposed over former GNER markings. Visible above the train at the far end of the footbridge is part of the former station signal box, subsequently adapted to serve as an attractive coffee lounge - see image [[23557]].
West Kirby: The new Merseyrail Class 777s were introduced onto Wirral Line services from September 2023. The process is a gradual one and on 16th September two 777s and three 507s were operating the West Kirby diagram. 777010 enters the terminus island platform.
Killorglin Viaduct: The viaduct across the River Laune at Killorglin looking east towards Farranfore. The section to Killorglin opened in Jan 1885 with the remaining section to Valencia Harbour opening in 1893. Closure came on 1 Feb 1960. The viaduct, now part of a short footpath and cycleway, sadly does not appear to be receiving any maintenance at all.
Penrith: Woolly thinking on platform 2 at Penrith. I'm not convinced by the Cumbrian language on the gate in the background.
Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum: A former ECML footbridge, presumably displaced by electrification, lying in dismantled at Prestongrange Museum.
Marton Gas Works [Blackpool]: A 2012 view of the 1903 Marton Direct line from Kirkham to Blackpool South, where it joined the coast line into Blackpool Central, very close to the Tower. Marton was an intermediate L&YR signal box on this line, where in 1940 a rail served gas works was constructed alongside. This closed in 1971 but the two gas holders can be seen in this view, although they were demolished three years later. The entire link road is built on the embankment of the old railway. Far right in this picture is the junction where it joins the M55 motorway, itself built partly on the railway alignment.
Forfar [1st]: This was the east end of Forfar [1st] station in a view looking south west. Tweed Mill Brae and housing now occupy the site. For a 1974 view, when the line was still open to goods, see [[14075]]. The station building on Victoria Street, which dated from 1839, has not survived.
Salisbury: A none too clean GWR 2-8-0 No 3816 is visiting Salisbury shed from Aberdare on 9 June 1963.
