Girvan (Old): Girvan (Old) station seen in 1993 looking to Ayr a few years after track lifting (in 1989). The station had opened as a terminus in 1860 and was to survive the extension of the line south to Stranraer in 1877, later becoming only a goods yard only. A platform building survived on the right.
Haydock Branch Junction: 66762 reverses twelve box wagons of stone back from the headshunt on the erstwhile St Helens Central branch up the gradient into the stone plant at Edge Hill near Golborne on 8th February 2023. The stone travels from Shap to Tuebrook overnight in a long train and is then moved here in two trips as the maximum capacity of the headshunt is twelve wagons. The driver is in radio contact with the shunter who is walking ahead of the train. This is usually a Class 60 duty but 66s substitute on occasions as here.
Picardy Place [Tram]: Looking west at Picardy Place stop on 15 February 2023. In the background work continues to remove all traces of the York Place stop.
Lincoln Central: 66531 and 66551 working 4L87, the 0855 Leeds to Felixstowe, passing an LNER Azuma in Lincoln on 7th February 2023.
Kemble: The 18.48 to Swindon had plenty of passengers waiting to board at Kemble; as did the previous train to Gloucester, so there was much activity in the car park. The driver gave me a friendly wave as he left.
Strathcarron: West Highland rain and a fine mist covering the area around Strathcarron late one October morning in 2009. The ScotRail 158 is a service from Inverness, which has just left the station loop to take the single line westbound. The train has a further 7 miles to run before completing its journey at Kyle of Lochalsh.
Baldragon Level Crossing: Looking south towards Dundee, from the former level crossing of the Dundee and Newtyle Railway over Strathmartine Road, in 1996. It's a little harder to see the former trackbed today.
Baldragon Level Crossing: Ex-CR Class 3P 54500 pauses at the crossing gates between Baldovan and Baldragon with the northbound SLS 'Angus Railtour' on 20th May 1961. Auchterhouse was by then the terminus of the line. The Caley Single No.123 had earlier taken the train from Glasgow to Dundee. 54486 was also used with 54500 as the train visited various local lines before No.123 took the train back to Glasgow.
Maida Vale: The two beautiful UndergrounD mosaics, high up on the walls by the stairs leading from the entrance down to the sub-surface ticket hall at Maida Vale station, LU Bakerloo Line, dating from the station's opening in 1915 and seen on 28th January 2023. This station, opened in 1915, is the only one on the entire London Underground to possess these.
Sands Lock [RC]: Had the original Rochdale Canal construction plans come to fruition there would have been a tunnel at Summit and Sands Lock (No.32) near Walsden, and thirteen others, would not have been built. Situated in typical Calderdale scenery it is just four locks short of the Summit pound, which is quite short at 0.8 miles. The fourteen locks saved 20,000 pounds compared to building the tunnel, 7% of the original estimated construction costs for the whole canal.
Aviemore Shed: Former Wemyss Private Railway Barclay 0-6-0T (Works No. 2017 of 1935) in steam outside Aviemore shed in 2006.
Dawsholm Shed: Ex-NBR J88 0-6-0T No 68336 has found a quiet corner at Dawsholm Shed on 2 March 1963. It is still sporting the 'Cycling Lion' emblem on the tank sides.
Shadwell: 357016 passes Shadwell DLR station, with the 12.04 C2C service from Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness, on 25 January 2023. DLR units 62 and 133 pass, seen from the platform.
