Irwell Vale: Last 'Wells' trains. East Lancashire Railway 34092 'City of Wells' passes through Lumb Woods with the 10:20 Bury to Rawtenstall on its last day in service before being withdrawn for its ten year overhaul, 2nd January 2023.
Beeches Light Railway: Any colour you like, as long as its black - a Ford Model-T railcar seen on shed at Adrian Shooter's garden railway during a summer 2022 visit.
Ormskirk: Having worked in to Ormskirk as half of a six-car unit, 508127 is now heading for Kirkdale as ECS while the other half waits to form the next train to Liverpool Central. Just through the bridge are the points for the single line into the surviving platform. 7th December 2022 was a sunny morning but the sunlight was not reaching the cutting.
Needham Market: A Friday evening in June 1976 finds the busy 18.40 Liverpool Street to Norwich service stranded near Needham Market in 'the middle of nowhere'. The class 47 at its head had failed and, being 1976, the driver could not call for assistance by radio or mobile phone. As seen here, he has flagged down a Cambridge to Ipswich service to relay his needs to the DMU driver for passing on down the line. The passengers had no means of outside communication either, so when the train eventually arrived in Norwich over two hours late, there was a crowd of anxious partners, friends and relatives who had also waited two hours or gone to the station when their loved ones failed to come home. It could have been worse. I might not have made it to Captain America's Hamburger Heaven in Exchange Street in time for a quarter pound De Luxe (cheese, lettuce, tomato, dill, mayo) with crispy fries and relishes. 80p. Just saying.
Redbridge Viaduct: Looking north towards Winston Road, Galashiels, in October 2013 with the River Tweed behind the camera. Work is underway on the re-excavation and replacement of the infilled bridge that had once carried the road over the Waverley Route, part of which has been revealed in the centre of the picture. For a view of progress in May 2014 see image [[47848]].
Prologis Park: Prologis Park sidings, formerly Keresley/Coventry Colliery. The sidings had been recently relaid, lighting installed and sheds built in 2003.
Eastleigh: Eastleigh station on 22 September 1966 and Ivatt 2MT 2-6-2T No 41299 is heading the 5.20pm train to Portsmouth & Southsea. This was one of the very few steam hauled local trains at this time (most were formed by 'Thumper' DEMUs), and Eastleigh shed produced whatever was available on the day for the turn e.g, Standard 4MT 2-6-4 tanks as well as the smaller Ivatts. See image [[81141]] for a present day view from the same location.
Whitebirk Power Station: Whitebirk Power Station opened in 1921 to serve the Blackburn area. Initially it was entirely supplied by canal and this narrow boat is moored in the old unloading area, alongside the retail park that now occupies the site. Between 1942 and 1955 the plant was enlarged and another larger coal unloading area was created on the opposite side of the canal, supplied by rail as well as barges, with conveyor bridges feeding the station. Whitebirk finally closed in 1976, and no trace remains of the power station, but the canal wharves are still clearly visible. 195109 passes the scene on 22nd December 2022.
Glasgow Queen Street High Level: Derby DMU 108 363 awaits departure from Glasgow Queen Street in 1989.
Pelaw [3rd]: Pelaw is only served by the Tyneside Metro, albeit with a frequent service from South Hylton and South Shields crossing the Tyne towards Newcastle Airport and St James via Whitley Bay and Wallsend. Passengers waiting on the platform are spectators as a Hexham to Battersby service passes through on the Network Rail lines.
Liverpool South Parkway: 350238 slows to call at Liverpool South Parkway, with a service heading for Lime Street, on 7th December 2022. There are four platforms here. In that on the left the route is signalled for the 156 to take the line through Warrington Central to Manchester Oxford Road.
