Carron Water Bridge [East Croft of Carmont]: Significant changes to the Carron Water Bridge worksite on my return visit on 1st February, and not just the weather. See image [[75584]] taken the previous week. The line will remain closed until at least mid-February 2021.

Carron Water Bridge [East Croft of Carmont]: I made a return visit to Bridge 328 on 1st February to see how the repairs were progressing. I was half expecting to see the other parapet removed, since the line is now closed until mid February, but it is still in place. This looked like a challenging activity, especially in the winter weather.

Battersby: The Train For sign at Battersby indicated where the bay platform train was headed. On the mainline was a Pacer for Whitby. Semaphore signals, telegraph lines and signal box were still operational but the water crane was not.

Aviemore Shed: The outside of Aviemore shed in April 1977 with a selection of rolling stock lined up including three diesel shunters, the two on the left formerly working at the Caldwell paper mill in Inverkeithing. With thanks to Bill Roberton for the correction to paper mill that the locos worked at.

Dalgety Bay: LNER Azuma 800104 runs through a frosty Dalgety Bay on 24th January 2021. This was an Edinburgh - Dundee empty stock working in order to form the 15.03 to London Kings Cross. Photograph ancillary to a daily exercise walk permitted under Corona Virus legislation.

North Connel: The site of North Connel halt looking south to the Connel Ferry Bridge in 1990. Nothing remained of the timber platform and waiting shelter. The roadway has since been realigned to run along the former railway. See image [[27031]].

Ashington: Weed-infested platform remains, minus all buildings, at Ashington station, Northumberland, closed with the line in 1964, looking south towards Newcastle, on 15th June 2018. A news report on 23rd January 2021 stated that £34 million funding has been found for the restoration of passenger services. The current estimate is an opening date in 2025. Lets hope so but it does sound a little ambitious, especially with the dreadful ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Barry Docks: Looking as though they could still be stabled on shed, BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4Ts 80135 and 80079 keep each other company whilst awaiting their fate in the sidings at Dai Woodhams Barry Scrapyard in 1966. Both were under 15 years old when withdrawn. There was a happy ending for both, as, like many others, they were bought for preservation, with 80135 now based on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and 80079 on the Severn Valley Railway.

Tralee [Aquadome]: Remains of the line and station (in background) by the Aquadrome at Tralee that was opened in 1993 for a short revived section of the former Tralee & Dingle Light Railway as far as Blennerville, in the far south-west of the Irish Republic, and seen here on 15th June 2016. The original line ran between the two towns in its title and was originally closed to passengers in 1939 and to freight in 1953. Sadly, this narrow gauge heritage railway only lasted 20 years and was closed in 2013. A consortium in 2015 looked at the possibility of its reopening but as at the start of 2021, this has yet to come to fruition.
