Elephant and Castle: The entrance to the National Rail station at Elephant & Castle, from the shopping centre, on 24th September 2020. This was the final day of the shopping centre which ceased trading and was closed for good by evening time in readiness for demolition and redevelopment of the area. When this centre was opened in 1965 it was the largest in Europe but had become very rundown and grubby in recent years and only a few shops were still open in its last few hours.

Easingwold: A surprising number of railway relics were noted when visiting a farm in the Easingwold area. These included a box van with sliding door each side, with end interior panelling almost as new, what looks to be a demountable livestock container, and, when looking upwards in an open pole barn, the wooden side frames from a NE 10T wagon used as roof purlins. This view is of the demountable container which has a lower drop down door and two side swinging doors above at each end. A similar type of railway container has just been sited by one of the Mid Norfolk Railway stations.

Lyne: Extract from the Scottish Region timetable winter 1960-61 when 'rail replacement bus service' had a different meaning. Lyne Station was (and is) a hamlet of its own, hence the wording. It was outside the parish of Lyne itself which had the distinction at this time of being Scotland's smallest parish - with only about 40 residents.

Inverkeithing East Junction: GBRf 66746 draws away from Inverkeithing East Junction with the Royal Scotsman 'Scotland Classic Splendours' first leg from Edinburgh to Aviemore Speyside on 14 September 2020. 66743 brings up the rear.

Clifden: Clifden Station in March 2020, with its Water Tower that has now been converted into a cafe. The whole station area has been redeveloped and all surrounding streets are called Platforms. So, whereas Clifden Station originally had one platform, it now has eight! The Connemara Railway and this station closed in 1935.

Harringworth: I took a wrong turn on the way from Harringworth to Corby station, and was rewarded with this very nice alternative view of the viaduct; which seems to owe more to landscape art than to civil engineering, despite the 30 million bricks used to build it. There is no train on the viaduct; but this is not unusual, as a crooner from Pontypridd might sing.

Hyndland Depot: For a few years after the electrics were introduced, the headshunt from Hyndland's electric depot usually had a J37 on display, which I assume was occasionally used to move units about (though I don't think I ever actually saw that happen!). This view, on 9th April 1963, shows 64558 and a 'blue electric' unit.
