Milton Keynes Central: I hope that the new West Coast operator First Trenitalia will be able to refurbish out this kind of seat. This is what I was faced with on my first journey on a Pendolino from Milton Keynes Central to Edinburgh. I specifically asked Virgin Trains for a window seat; should have realised I was to be travelling on the thirteenth...

Springfield: Springfield was perhaps a surprising station to escape Beeching, but it became unstaffed early with a peak hours only service. While the rest of Scotland's stations generally have more trains than they ever had, Springfield has only 2 Up and 3 Down trains a day. The 1759 to Edinburgh is up on the not very busy board. Trains pull up clear of the 1847 platform level and passengers crunch through red gravel - West Highland style. Seen on 23 July 2019.

Cardiff Central: A 'Steam Dreams' excursion visited Cardiff on 1st August 2019. B1 61307 'Mayflower,' and Black Five 44871, brought the train as far as Maindee Jct from Paddington where the train reversed on the triangle. This was to get the steam at the front for the return. 47802 brings the train into Cardiff alongside a Valley Lines Sprinter.
