Fillan Viaduct: 37518 leads 45407 not long after crossing the Fillan Viaduct just north of Crianlarich and turns into the curve to the west. A different line up to the usual on the West Highland - normally when the Jacobite stock heads north the two Black 5s are at the front, 37 in the rear. On this occasion 45212 was on the rear. (Does anyone know why?) Running somewhat late.

Pitlochry: The re-signalling at Pitlochry can cause some operational difficulties. The LNER HST heading for Inverness on 16th April 2019 would normally now use Platform 1 on the right but was 20 minutes late and had to use Platform 2 waiting for a train in the Blair Atholl section. The new colour lights are set well back on the platform meaning the rear power car of the HST was fouling the other line. Not a problem with the Scotrail HST set seen here waiting to head south but two long trains cannot pass here now.

Thorpe Bay: 357 032 with a C2C service from London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness via Basildon arriving at its penultimate stop at Thorpe Bay on 11th March 2014. The LTSR reached what is now Southend Central in 1856 but was not extended to Shoeburyness until 1884. However, it was not until 1st July 1910 that the station seen here was opened on the 1884 section and for its first few weeks it was known as Southchurch-on-Sea but was quickly renamed Thorpe Bay on 18th July of the same year.

Helmsley: The old signal box at Helmsley, North Yorkshire, some 12 miles west of Pickering, seen here in April 2008. View is south west with the station off to the right [see image 18821] and the former goods yard located on the far side of the box. The building on the left is a later addition now occupying part of the trackbed. Helmsley station closed to passengers in 1953, with the line remaining open for freight as far as Kirbymoorside until 1964.

Clapham High Street: 378 220 to Highbury & Islington arriving at Clapham High Street station on 9th December 2012, the first day of London Overground services at this station. This replaced the South London Metro service from London Bridge to Victoria so that any passengers from this station to Victoria thenceforth had to change at Clapham Junction. But with the long walks there between platforms, it is much quicker and easier to get from Clapham to Victoria by using the nearby Northern Line station at Clapham North and changing to the Victoria Line at Stockwell where same-level interchange and the minimum of walking is available. But Clapham residents still protested at the loss of their direct service to Victoria - and to London Bridge too.
