Wardleworth

Wardleworth was a large passenger station, with an extensive goods yard, serving east Rochdale on the line to Bacup. Passenger services ceased in 1947 and goods in November 1966. The last freight from Whitworth passed through in August 1967. This bridge parapet on Taylor St, and another behind, are all that remains of the railway here, with the station cleared and built on. This was the start of the almost continuous 1:60 single track to Whitworth, steepening to 1:50 to Facit. View north towards Shawclough in April 2025. The old line can be walked or cycled from here to Britannia.
