Putney Bridge

The grand exterior of Putney Bridge, LU District Line, on 5th April 2025. This was opened by the Metropolitan District Railway as Putney Bridge & Fulham with the extension from West Brompton in 1880. Trains were extended over LSWR tracks to Wimbledon in 1889 and it was renamed Putney Bridge & Hurlingham in 1902 and finally Putney Bridge in 1932. The section south to Wimbledon remained in main line ownership until 1994 when control passed to LT, even though Southern Railway trains from Waterloo to Wimbledon via East Putney had ceased in 1941. Wimbledon station, however, remains in National Rail control.
