South Wimbledon

Exterior of South Wimbledon, LU Northern Line, on 5th April 2025. This station was designed by the London Underground's renowned architect Dr. Charles Holden (1875-1960) and opened on 13th September 1926 with the extension of the City & South London Railway from its 1900 terminus at Clapham Common to Morden. This then became known as the Morden-Edgware Line until 1937 when, during a general renaming of lines by the LPTB, it became the Northern Line, even though this section is in SOUTH London! The station name is a misnomer since it is not in Wimbledon at all but in Merton.
