Finmere

There are three centuries of history here. In 1899, a railway bridge was built over what is now the A421 at Finmere; a pedestrian entrance was built into one abutment with the GCR policy of minimizing station entrances to control staff costs. By 1963, when Finmere closed, it was presumably getting awkward to stop cars under the bridge for passengers and the entrance was bricked up. In 2025, the scene is dominated by massive girders that will take HS2 over the former bridge. Sadly the attractive station master's house to the west of this bridge has been demolished.
