Shapbeck Quarry

Colas Rail 70810 was working hard as it passed beneath Little Strickland Road, near the village of the same name, on Tuesday 15th April 2025 working 6E41 1158 Carlisle New Yard to Bradwell Up Sidings. The train was nearing Shapbeck Quarry, beyond which is Shap Summit, the highest point on the WCML in England at 916ft above sea level, having begun the 12-mile climb of gradients up to 1 in 125 at Penrith.
