Hopwood Signal Box
Hopwood signal box sat alongside the down line directly on top of this bridge, which carries the Manchester and Leeds route over the Rochdale Canal, near the village of Slattocks to the south of Castleton. The L&YR box was closed in LMS days and replaced with intermediate block signals. The canal bridge, almost a tunnel, has a very wide trackbed but the two lines cross at an angle leaving a large but unusable triangle of land on each side of the bridge deck. A Class 195, heading for the Calder Valley, passes on 17th April 2024.
