This wooded isle was once the embankment of the Lochore Branch of the North British Railway. The view looks north east. The route of the branch followed along this island from left to right, then the left tip of the next island, followed by a curve to run along the left side of the next island before reaching the far side of the loch, where the Mary Pit was located. The loch was drained long before the railway was built and the North British used large amounts of material to build the embankment across the Lochore Meadows which regularly sank requiring yet more material. Mining subsidence caused the loch to return, although not exactly where it had been before.
