Sighthill East Junction [1st]

An unexpected sight, speeding past the turn off at Sighthill East junction in 1965 was Britannia 70039 'Sir Christopher Wren' with an unidentified express heading for Buchanan Street. I had just enjoyed a footplate ride through the Buchanan St tunnel on an empty stock working (see 77714) when the Britannia appeared, going a good deal faster than I thought would have been typical when so close to the terminus. I am pretty sure the train was a special of some sort, but it did not spend long at Buchanan St, as loco and train were hauled past us in the tunnel when we went back down the hill to the station. I never did find out what the working was.
