Bethnal Green

The disused platforms at Bethnal Green station, closed in 1946, with the remaing platforms on the north side in the background, now served by London Overground trains to and from Chingford, Enfield Town and Cheshunt, seen from passing 720 544 with the ex-15.10 Greater Anglia service from Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street, at 16.03 on Friday, 15th September 2023. The train is approaching Liverpool Street and is about to descend under the remains of the viaduct to the original 1840 terminus at Bishopsgate High Level which was replaced by Liverpool Street in 1875/76. Bishopsgate survived as a goods depot until destroyed by fire, in which two people tragically died, in December 1964.
