Huncoat Colliery first produced coal in 1890 but in 1952 Huncoat Power Station opened nearby and the two were linked by a half mile mineral line to directly serve the station. The pit closed in 1968, economic reserves having been exhausted, so the line only operated for around sixteen years. The site has been cleared, although not redeveloped, but little remains of industrial days. This shallow depression is the route of the mineral line to the power station, which received supplies by rail from elsewhere until its 1984 closure.
