Alexandra Palace

Preserved 1961 Deltic 55009 Alycidon with a UK Railtours' outing from King's Cross to York and Scarborough, passing Alexandra Palace station in north London at 08.10 on Saturday, 19th August 2023. This locomotive, previously D9009, was named Alycidon after the winner of the 1949 Ascot Gold Cup at Doncaster Works before entering service. It was preserved after the Deltics finished in 1981 but in 2019 suffered some serious damage and has undergone a lengthy restoration programme to enable it to haul main line excursion trains again.
