Barkingside

Platform for trains towards Hainault and Woodford at Barkingside, LU Central Line, on 1st July 2023. Opened by the GER in 1903 and seen here a month after its 75th Anniversary of becoming an Underground station when tube trains were extended from Newbury Park to Hainault on 31st May 1948. Barkingside is better served by bus routes and until 1959 was also the northern terminus of the 691 trolleybus route to Barking via Ilford which used SA types that were originally meant for Johannesburg and Durban but were retained in east London due to a shortage of other trolleybuses.
