San Lorenzo

On a fine autumn afternoon in 1973, FS 2-8-0 741 320 runs light engine along the Val Pusteria near Brunico. The railway line along this lovely South Tyrolean valley connects Fortezza in Italy with Lienz in southern Austria. The Italian section of the route was still seeing some steam operation until the mid nineteen seventies, mostly with Class 741 locomotives, of somewhat odd appearance due to their Franco-Crosti boilers. The castle in the background is Castello Badia.
