Norwich

The splendid exterior of Norwich station on 27th May 2023. The original station was opened on 1st May 1844 as Norwich by the Yarmouth and Norwich Railway (via Berney Arms) and renamed Norwich Thorpe on 12th December 1849. The present station is a re-siting by the GER dating from 3rd May 1886 as Norwich Thorpe but became simply Norwich again on 5th May 1969. It is the only survivor of the three termini in Norwich. Victoria, the original Eastern Counties terminus closed to passengers in 1916 and to freight in 1966 while the ex-M&GNR City station closed to passengers in 1959 and to freight in 1969.
