Barton Tramway Depot

A tramway opened in 1897 to convey workers around the vast Trafford Park Estate. It was later electrified with a depot established at the west end of the estate. Tram services ceased in 1948 but railway goods traffic on the estate continued, albeit gradually declining, until closure in 1998. Few traces of the system remain but this bridge abutment survives where the depot tramline crossed the Bridgwater Canal.
