Ipswich

Ipswich, looking towards London on 2nd May 2023. The first Ipswich station opened by the Eastern Union Railway south of the tunnel in 1846 and replaced later that year with one on the north side by the Ipswich & Bury Railway that extended the line to Bury St. Edmunds. Re-sited to its present location in 1860, it originally consisted of one through platform with bays at the north end, platforms 1 and 2 today. In 1862, it came under the control of the GER who added the island platform (nos. 3 and 4 today), on the right, in 1883.
