Savernake High Level
An abandoned steam locomotive water tank at Savernake Upper Station on 19 April
1986. There may have been a Savernake Lower Station, operated by the GWR. I
understand, back in the 1930's when the GWR took over the MSWJR, rationalisation took place. The GWR branch to Marlborough was closed and the MSWJR line retained, running from Andover to Andoversford by way of Savernake Upper, Marlborough, Swindon, Cricklade and onto Cheltenham. The line was closed by BR in 1960.
