Haywards Heath

Haywards Heath, northbound platforms, seen from 700016 with a Thameslink service to Brighton on 15th April 2023. In 1963, BR Southern Region took the nonsensical decision to withdraw the electric service to Horsted Keynes, thus isolating the Bluebell Railway, that had only reopened between Horsted Keynes and Sheffield Park in 1960 (but now, of course, extends all the way back to East Grinstead). This closure decision was all the more incomprehensible given that the Horsted Keynes to Haywards Heath line had stayed open throughout the entire period when the Bluebell Railway was closed.
