Galashiels

'Peak' Type 4 D160 calls at Galashiels on 4th January 1969, the final Saturday before closure of the Waverley Route. The train was the 9.30 am Edinburgh-Carlisle, the Waverley route portion of the up 'Thames-Clyde Express'. The police were present because of the likelihood of fully understandable protest against the closure of the route the following day. It looks as though the number turning out at Galashiels was rather smaller than later in the journey at Hawick (see image 22765).
