Ulverston Canal Rolling Bridge

The rolling bridge over the Ulverston Canal is a Grade II listed structure, and reported to be unique in Europe. It last operated in the 1940s when canal traffic ceased and was fixed in position. However, rail freight trains working down the branch from Plumpton Junction continued to cross it to access the Glaxo works on the west bank until 1994. This model, by the towpath level crossing, illustrates how the bridge operated when opening for boats.
