Ainsworth Road Halt

Another 'squinty house' (See image 30084). This is the site of Ainsworth Road Halt, on the Radcliffe to Bradley Fold line, and the curious angle of the gable end follows the line of the railway boundary. The short section of rendered wall between the building and the bridge stonework was the entrance to the Up Platform of the halt but the cutting it occupied has been filled in and houses occupy the solum. Behind the camera a road has obliterated the line towards Radcliffe. The line had opened in 1879 but the halt was much later in 1918. L&YR railmotors, and later push pull services, connected Bolton with electric trains at Radcliffe Central. These ceased in 1953 but freight and diverted passenger trains used the line until 1964.
