Eastleigh

Eastleigh station on 22 September 1966 and Ivatt 2MT 2-6-2T No 41299 is heading the 5.20pm train to Portsmouth & Southsea. This was one of the very few steam hauled local trains at this time (most were formed by 'Thumper' DEMUs), and Eastleigh shed produced whatever was available on the day for the turn e.g, Standard 4MT 2-6-4 tanks as well as the smaller Ivatts. See image 81141 for a present day view from the same location.
