Farringdon

Farringdon, Thameslink platforms, looking south on the afternoon of Saturday, 10th December 2022. To accommodate longer trains, the platforms were extended up to the northern portal of the Snow Hill tunnel (closed in 1916 and to freight in 1971 but reopened for passengers in 1988) on 20th March 2009 which completely blocked the junction with the former Widened Lines to Barbican and Moorgate, on the left where the extended southbound platform now is. This meant the permanent abandoning of Midland peak hour trains to Moorgate so that those passengers have ever since had to alight here, cross the footbridge and then join crowded Underground trains, a great inconvenience.
