Arkleston Junction

The sad picture of Fairburn 4MT 2-6-4T No 42698, minus buffer beams, pony truck and rear bogie, after the collision with J35 0-6-0 No 64464 at Arkleston Junction on 20 May 1958. Fortunately, it was not mortally wounded and returned to Greenock Ladyburn Shed after repair. Unlike modern times, traffic was resumed, on a single line basis, within a matter of hours with most of the Gourock and Wemyss Bay trains, rather strangely, being double-headed.
