Hackney Central

378221, with a London Overground service to Stratford, heading away from the camera as it departs from Hackney Central on the afternoon of Saturday, 6th August 2022. On the left and right are the remains of the original 1850 Hackney station that closed in 1944 when severe war damage ended the Broad Street to Poplar service. A passenger service on this section of the North London Railway (as renamed in 1853) was suddenly and without ceremony reintroduced in 1979, at first with d.m.u.'s shuttling between Stratford and Camden Road, running non-stop between Stratford and Canonbury, and marketed as the 'Crosstown Linkline'. Hackney Central and Hackney Wick stations were added in 1980 with Homerton and Dalston Kingsland following in 1985.
